We are about to begin the very exciting process of building our dream home! We have bought a block of land in North Lakes, an area we have always loved, and the block backs on to the golf course.
We are currently in the process of choosing a house plan and a builder - I never imagined how difficult this would be! It's such a big decision - I am so paranoid about making sure we choose what it perfect for us.
Originally from looking at display homes we were set on either Plantation Homes or Metricon Homes. However after getting quotes from each, we realised they weren't really right for us. We want a big alfresco area, and the plans and shapes just weren't going to suit our needs or our block. The display homes for these builders are amazing, but we have realised this is due to upgrades that really any builder can do.
We then considered pretty much every other builder and narrowed it down to the Coral Homes Bahama 37 and the Clarendon Homes Oxford 30 (both with modifications). After spending time with consultants from both, we received a well priced quote from Clarendon, and very disappointingly received no quote back from Coral after the consultant had promised he would have it to us by the weekend. We took this as a sign, and paid a $2,000 deposit with Clarendon.
Well, now we have done a complete 360! We have realised we do ultimately love the Coral design, and their inclusions are simply unbeatable. We feel as though the Coral Bahama would be our dream home, and the Oxford would be a compromise..
We are going to give Coral another chance. The first consultant was at the Rochedale display, however they have just opened a display at North Lakes where the ladies seemed very friendly, so hopefully we will have a better experience our second time around!
Sadly and frustratingly we now have to wait until they re open after the Christmas period, which will be the first week of January. Fortunately our land isn't registered yet, and should be ready to build on in March, so we have the time for all these decisions and changes.
